I was part of a photowalk in downtown Austin in the spring of 2012. Our first stop was the Long Center for the Performing Arts where we met a homeless man.
I am a big Steve McCurry fan. I think he and Paul Theroux have put together a very nice collection of photos titled Deep South – Steve McCurry.
I found this beetle in my yard and brought him in to shoot. I named him “John” because John Lennon’s favorite color was green and he was a “Beatle” himself.
I think most everyone is aware that September 27th was a very special celestial day as the moon was putting on a very special show. A rare combination of a Total Lunar Eclipse and a “Blood Moon”.
I was excited to hear that we were going to have both a “Super Moon” and a Total Lunar Eclipse yesterday evening. Then, clouds moved in and ruined the photo opportunity.
Some coworkers and I decided to hold a photowalk in downtown Austin back in April of 2012. The image below of the Texas Capitol patio is one of my favorites from this shoot.
One of the most important parts of the US Government is the US Supreme Court. I had a chance to tour the building and view the Supreme Columns up close.
One of the most moving areas within the Arlington National Cemetery in the Washington DC area is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
As I walked around Arlington National Cemetery I ran across a whitewashed building and noticed a white door and black lamp.
At Alcatraz, nicknamed “The Rock”, a prisoner had four rights: food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. Everything else was a privilege that had to be earned.
There was a flower arrangement that was about to start wilting so I decided to take this quartet of purple mums into my light box and capture them for posterity.
Another image from my trip to Maui earlier this year. I was hiking along the Pipiway Stream and I found this area with the steps and this mossy rock.
I was walking up the trail towards the waterfall when I spotted this magnificent portion of the Pipiwai Stream.
While in Maui last spring, I spent time hiking the trails near the Pools at Ohe’o along the Pipiwai Stream, through the wonderful bamboo forest and ending at the Waimoku Falls.
Most great images are all about being in the right place at the right time. This image was taken when the praying mantis came between me and the sun. I really like how the light bounced off his body, especially the gleam in his eye.
On of my favorite Texas Wildflowers is the Mexican Hat. Not only do I think that the name is cool but so is the flower.
The Santa Elena Canyon is another main attraction within the Big Bend NP. The canyon is part of the US/Mexico border and is home to the Rio Grand. This image captures the canyon’s first light.
Will the real Ernst tinaja… I posted an image yesterday that I took in the Ernst tinaja canyon. In that post, I showcased an image of another tinaja. Well, this is the real Ernst tinaja.
I spent a few days in Big Bend NP with some of my photography friends earlier this year. I captured this reflecting sunrise in the Ernst tinaja canyon.
Photographing sunsets is a difficult task. It gets easier if you can catch the last rays of light. This was the case when I captured this “Volcanic Sunset”.
I had the opportunity to visit the Maroon Bells area during the 2015 Labor Day weekend. One of Colorado’s most photographed scenes did not let me down despite the lack of great skies.
Many people describe Cuba as a country frozen in time. This is evident by the large number of vintage vehicles on the roads, many in pristine condition.
There is a place in Old Havana called the Plaza de la Catedral. It is here where you will find many Cuban Cigar Ladies posing for pictures. For me though, it was “No Photo for You”.
Manaca Iznaga is an old plantation located outside of Trinidad, Cuba, in the Valle de los Ingenios area. Torre de Manaca Iznaga is located there.
Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula in Havana is no longer a church. One of Havana’s most attractive churches was fully restored in 2000. The stained glass windows, heavy cupola and baroque facade are distinctive architectural elements.
One thing that can be said about Cuban society is that they have an incredible ability to adapt. Cuba was highly dependent on the Soviet Union. This all came to an abrupt halt with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
While in Havana last year I had the opportunity to visit many museums and tourist sites. On the way back to the hotel one evening I decided to take a little detour through some of the streets in Havana.
During my recent trip to Buffalo I was able to visit the Buffalo Botanical Gardens in addition to visiting the Basilica. My favorite part of the tour was the cactus exhibit. I named this one Buffalo Cactus.
Another image from my trip to Buffalo last June. This one was taken next to where I shot the image in the “Congrats” post I made the other day. The angels made for a good “mirror image”.
I visited Buffalo, NY earlier this year and had a chance to capture some images inside the Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna. I thought the “Congrats” balloon added a modern touch.
Indian Blanket is one of my favorite Texas Wildflowers. It grows in the late spring and early summer and is one of the more colorful wildflowers in this area.

Ernest Hemingway was a famous author. In 1939, he moved to Cuba where he was adopted by the community. This was evident when I visited Cuba in 2014.

I was out in my back yard the other day scouting for bugs to shoot when I ran across a hawk feather. Days earlier I heard a hawk being very vocal. I was not sure if it was injured or if it was being threatened.
