Bus at the Car Forest

One of the first things you notice when driving up to The International Car Forest of the Last Church near Goldfield, Nevada are the buses sticking out of the ground. This bus sits atop the hill and is the most prominent. A bright moon gave me the idea of a starburst over the bus while casting a shadow in front of me. The gaps in the windows provide a leading line to the bus. Lighting the bus was tricky. This is actually my test shot so the exposure is not perfect but the position of the vehicles and the moon was exactly what I wanted. So, I had to do some post processing “light painting” in order to show some of the grafitti on the bus. As I said previously, I’m not a big fan of these type of photos but I did find the challenge interesting.

This image was taken with my Sony A7R II using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 20 seconds and the ISO set at 4000. I used a tripod for stability. I lit the inside of the bus with a string of fairy lights and the inside of the car with some tea lights. The outside of the vehicles was brightened in post production. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
