Schwabachers Landing

Schwabachers Landing in the Grand Teton National Park was one of my favorite stops during my recent trip to the area. This sunrise photograph was taken on the second morning of my photography workshop. Although I was hoping for a more colorful sunrise, I can’t complain about the diffused light and the clouds over the Grand Teton Mountain Range.

Schwabachers Landing is a boat landing located a few miles south of Snake River Overlook, along the east shore of the Snake River. Fishermen, canoeists and rafters use the landing to gain access to the Snake River, and it is one of four locations in the Grand Teton National Park where the river is easily accessed. Wildlife including moose, pronghorn, mule deer and bald eagles are commonly seen in the immediate vicinity of the landing. Above the landing, along the main highway, some of the finest vistas of the Teton Range are visible and a number of excellent images have been painted and photographed from that vantage point. There were many photographers in the area when we arrived. I was lucky to get a spot to capture this photograph.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/14, shutter speed at 1/4th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom then finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
