The Mealy Blue Sage is an excellent plant for a flower bed, and is often planted in groupings to create an attractive mass of color. It is also a good plant for a rock garden.
American Basket Flower
The American Basket Flower (Centaurea americana), is native to south-central United States and northeastern Mexico. I understand that this is a very easy plant to grow and that it requires little maintenance.

It’s the last of the Bluebonnets. Most of the Texas Bluebonnets growing in central Texas have gone to seed. I captured this specimen at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center earlier this spring.

Sunrise at Dorgan House was very special during my recent trip to Big Bend National Park. The colors provided by the sun and the clouds were spectacular. One of the best I have seen in this area.

It is time for my spring trip to Big Bend National Park in west Texas. One of the first events was the hike up Grapevine Hills Trail to photograph a Balanced Rock Panorama.
Texas Bluebonnet Time
It is Texas Bluebonnet Time in Central Texas and especially out at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. I was impressed by the quantity and quality of the bluebonnets at the Center this year.
Dew on an Eastern Purple Coneflower
I finally made it out to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to photograph some of the wonderful Texas Wildflowers. I was making my way around the grounds when I came across this Eastern Purple Coneflower with dewdrops on its petals.
Howling Coyote
I photographed this howling coyote near sunset lake in the Biscuit and Black Sand Basins of Yellowstone National Park.I heard him howling but I could not spot him. He finally came out in a clearing and I was able to capture a few photos of him in action.
Castle Geyser
Castle Geyser is located about one thousand yards northeast of Old Faithful. A paved walkway leads directly to this famous geyser. I photographed it early one morning during my trip to Yellowstone.
Eastern Phoebe
Springtime is by far my favorite time of year, especially here in Texas. The temperatures are pleasant, the flowers start blooming and the songbirds are a plenty. Eastern Phoebes are perennial around our property and I’m always excited to see them milling about.

Valentia Lighthouse
Valentia Island is a great place to visit. The Valentia Lighthouse is maintained by the Commissioners of Irish Lights. The lighthouse light guides vessels from the sea and leads them through the northern entrance of Valentia Harbor past Harbor Rock.
Prairie Fleabane
Spring is moving along much faster than I expected. Wildflowers are springing up everywhere! I decided that I better get outside and make sure I still remember how to photograph Texas Wildflowers. This pair of Prairie Fleabane flowers were ideal to photograph.

Firehole Falls is located right next to Firehole drive which follows the Firehole River. The narrow and short waterfall sits amidst 800-foot thick lava flows that form the canyon walls.

Lone Tree in the Snow
Our photography workshop group searched for a “Lone Tree” the entire time we were in Yellowstone National Park. We finally found one on the last day. This tree is located near Soda Butte along highway 212 in the north side of the park.
Shadows in the Snow
One of our first stops during the “Winter in Yellowstone” photography workshop I attended was along the Tangled Creek portion of the Lower Geyser basin where we photographed trees casting shadows in the snow.
Simplicity
I decided to focus on simplicity as part of my goals during my recent trip to Yellowstone National Park. I found some small saplings along the Fountain Paint Pot Nature Trail that allowed me this opportunity.
Bison on the Range
We ran across this wonderful scene of bison on the range along highway 191 on our way to photograph the Grand Prismatic Spring. What caught our eye was the ever-changing light behind the group of American Bison.
