View of Castellon

I photographed this view of Castellon Mountain at sunset from the Dorgan house which is located at the end of the Dorgan-Sublett Trail in Big Bend National Park. i was trying to include portions of what is left of the old Dorgan House. I’m not sure what this small room was, but perhaps a pantry, closet or even a bathroom.

I have written a couple of stories about the Dorgan house but I thought it might be important to repeat some of it for new blog subscribers. The Dorgan House is located near Santa Elena Canyon on the southernmost area of the park. There is a short trail that starts along the main road and winds through an open area onto a mesa that houses this structure. On the way you will see smaller structures once used for the employees and another stop where the Sublett home once stood. An easy hike to this point rewards you with spectacular views of the Chisos Mountains, Mule Ears and Castellon Mountain. I highly recommend this hike to anyone visiting t he park.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 20 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f11, shutter speed at 1/40th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for this photograph. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
