Big Bend Area

Welcome to my Big Bend Area Gallery. The Big Bend area is one of my favorite destinations in the State of Texas. Nestled within the Chihuahuan Desert, the area boasts two magnificent parks- the Big Bend National Park and the Big Bend Ranch State Park. Unlike other busy parks, these offer a tranquil escape and provide ample opportunities to capture breathtaking landscapes and native Texas wildflowers. I make it a point to visit the area every spring and fall to photograph the most popular spots and wildflowers. To view my collection of Texas wildflower photographs, please click here. The Big Bend area is also a prime location for astrophotography, with its stunning night skies. Check out my collection of night sky photographs by clicking here.

  1. That Castellan sunrise is so beautiful. Do you have to hike to get that kind of view, or is this a viewpoint off the scenic drive? What time do you recommend arriving to get this kind of lighting? Just before sunrise, or a bit more before?

  2. It’s a very short hike as the road runs right next to it. Park down the road and find the best foreground. I like to arrive plenty early and take lots of shots so I have some options. Also, if you go in the spring and get lucky, you will see a lot of blooms in this area.
