Best of 2016 – Storm Over Austin

Another great moment in 2016 was this storm over Austin. It was a bit of a lucky moment. I went with a friend to the Zilker Clubhouse to photograph the Austin skyline. This location overlooks the downtown area and provides one of the better views of the growing area. I knew that storms were going to be in the area that afternoon so I thought there was a good chance of getting some good cloud formations. I had no idea that I was going to be able to take this GigaPan photograph and have it come out the way it did. The setting sun lit up the skies for only a minute or two, long enough for me to capture the 15 images that it took to make this multi-row panorama. Another favorite photo from 2016.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 70-200 mm f/2.8 II Lens set on 100 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/25th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used my GigaPan Epic Pro panorama head to capture a multi-row panorama composed of 15 images (3 rows of 5). I stitched the panorama together in Lightroom and I finalized the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
