The Saddle at Lost Mine Trail

One of my favorite hikes in Big Bend National Park, and also a favorite among many of the park’s visitors, is hiking up to The Saddle at Lost Mine Trail. This is about the halfway point in the 2-mile hike and offers spectacular views of Juniper Canyon and the South Rim (shown on the right side of the frame). Sunrise is the best time to go. I showed up around 5:30 AM to photograph the night sky and the sunrise. Many park visitors wait until after sunrise to make the trek but I recommend you experience the sunrise from this location. So, get up early and make the 30-minute hike to have a great experience.

This image was taken with my Sony A7R IV using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 20mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/11, shutter speed at 1/30th of a second, and ISO set at 100. I used a tripod and my rail to capture eight images which I stitched together using Adobe Lightroom. I then processed the image in Lightroom and completed it in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
