I’m preparing for another trip to Ireland this spring so I was going through my photos from last year’s trip and I noticed that I still have quite a few that I have not processed and posted. This one of the Valentia Lighthouse caught my eye and I thought it was an ideal photo to add to my portfolio. I hiked down a rocky outcrop to get access to an area where the lines in the rocks led to the Valentia Lighthouse.
Valentia Island is a great place to visit. The Lighthouse is maintained by the Commissioners of Irish Lights. The lighthouse light guides vessels from the sea and leads them through the northern entrance of Valentia Harbor past Harbor Rock. The site was originally home to a Fort believed to have been built in the 16th century. Originally the lighthouse was staffed by a single keeper, housed with his family on site, however with automation the keeper was withdrawn and a part-time attendant was appointed to look after the station.
This image was taken with my Sony A7R II using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 17mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/8th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
