Pondering Woodpecker

I was photographing Painted Buntings last month when I spotted this pondering Woodpecker eating suet out of one of the feeders in the bird blind at Pedernales Falls State Park. The Ladder-backed Woodpecker seemed like it was really enjoying its food. As I mentioned in a previous post, suet is used by bird blind owners to attract birds.

The weather here in Texas has settled into a sweltering heat for the next couple of months so going out and photographing in the heat is not something I want to do. So, I think I’ll focus on processing some of my older photographs and working on my macro skills until things cool down a bit.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 II Lens set on 400mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/6.3, shutter speed at 1/400th of a second and the ISO set at 320. This is a single photograph processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.
