Whooping Crane with a Crab

I mentioned in an earlier post that I made a trip to the Rockport, Texas area to photograph the coastline and the many species of Texas Birds that inhabit the area. Rockport is the epicenter for birders who want to see Whooping Cranes in the wild. The Cranes migrate in the winter to the area and they can be found in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. It was there that I was able to photograph this Whooping Carne with a Crab in its beak. This is one of the largest crabs I have seen them catch. It was certainly a treat and worth standing in the cold, wind, and rain to capture this moment.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using a Canon EF 600mm f/4 IS Mark III that I rented from LensRentals. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/500th of a second, and the ISO set at 640. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
