Bluebonnets Among Marigolds

During my recent visit to Big Bend National Park, I took the time one morning to hike up the Grapevine Hills Trail to photograph Balanced Rock against the night sky and to capture the rising sun. On my way back from doing so, I realized the perfectly still wind, along with the shadow cast by the nearby hills, created ideal conditions to photograph wildflowers. I found a grouping of Big Bend Bluebonnets among Marigolds while walking around in the area. This near-perfect Bluebonnet caught my eye. I used the Desert Marigolds nearby as a background. I recommend this hike and recommend you go before sunrise as the best experience is during sunrise.

This image was taken with my Sony A7 IV using my Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 1/100th of a second, and ISO set at 100. I used a tripod and my focus rail to capture eleven images which I stitched together using Adobe Photoshop using the focus stacking feature. I finished processing the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
