Sometimes the test shots are worth something. That was the case during my recent trip to Rockport, Texas to photograph birds and seascapes. This Sunrise photo was actually a test shot to get the exposure settings for the long exposure photographs I was about to take. Test shots in long exposure photography are important to better understand which Neutral Density filters to use and how long the exposure should be. The whole idea of long exposure photography near water is to create the right amount of silkiness in the water. The rougher the sea, the more silkiness it will generate. As I was going through my photos this week, This one caught my eye and I decided it was good enough to share. Enjoy!
This image was taken with my Sony A7R IV using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 35 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/14, shutter speed at 30 seconds, and ISO set at 100. I used a 6-stop Lee filter to extend the exposure time and a Circular Polarizing Filter to minimize the glare on the water. I also used a tripod for stability given the long exposure. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Photo Efex 7.
