One of my favorite spots at the Grand Teton National Park is Schwabacher’s Landing. Not only is it\u00a0a great spot for fantastic sunrise photography but it is\u00a0also filled with Beavers busy building their homes and shoring up their dams. It was there that I spotted this beaver going across the pond to collect more twigs\u00a0to build its home. What made it even more interesting was the reflection of the golden leaves of the Aspens in the background.<\/p>\n

The Beaver Dam that forms a pond at Schwabacher’s Landing is a very popular tourist attraction.\u00a0The elaborately built dam spans the entire south side of the pond. Built out of mud, branches and logs the dam blocks-up the stream creating a stable body of water for the beaver to live in. There are quite a few huge, pyramidal pile of sticks that make up the beaver lodges. I witnessed one of the beavers fetch construction materials then meticulously place them atop the lodge.<\/p>\n

Beavers are one of the largest members of the rodent family and can weigh up to 100 pounds. They are marvelous swimmers and they use their ability to be under water for long periods of time to avoid predators. They build there lodges with underwater openings so they can swim in and out of their dens safely. I highly recommend visiting Schwabacher’s Landing if you are in the area.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 7D Mark II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/5.6, shutter speed at 1\/250th of a second and the ISO set at 400. I did not use a tripod for this image. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
