Another nice Mallow<\/a> for my Texas Wildflower<\/a> collection. This is a Seashore Mallow (Kosteletzkya virginica) and it is not commonly found in the wild in Central Texas but does grow in large quantities on the gulf coast, especially in neighboring Louisiana.<\/p>\n

Seashore Mallow, also known as Sweat Weed, Virginia Saltmarsh Mallow, and salt Marsh Mallow, is most commonly found on the east coast and especially in Virginia (thus its\u00a0scientific name).\u00a0I photographed this flower on one of my recent trips to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. It was growing next to a small water feature. Although the plant prefers sandy, wet soil, it will adapt to other terrains, including clay.<\/p>\n

I was lucky enough to find a nice flower that was jetting out over the pond with significant separation between the flower and the surrounding plants. I was a bit challenged by the light breeze and had to be quite patient in order to capture the necessary images.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II Digital Camera<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony 90mm f\/2.8 Macro Lens<\/a>. The camera was set on\u00a0Manual\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/4.5, shutter speed at 1\/160th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used only natural light to light the subject. I used the\u00a0Kirk FR-2 Focusing Rail<\/a>\u00a0to capture three\u00a0photographs and brought them together into one image using Photoshop using the\u00a0Focus Stacking<\/a>\u00a0technique. I finished the image in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
