I photographed this White-fronted Bee Eater at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve<\/a>\u00a0during my trip to South Africa earlier this year. We were traversing the park on the safari vehicle when we came up on this bird basking in the soft morning light.<\/p>\n

The White-fronted Bee Eater is endemic to Africa. They are most often found along riverbanks and eroded gullies as they are used as nesting sites. They nest in small colonies, digging holes in the side of the banks. It feeds exclusively on insects (primarily bees), doing most of its hunting from a perch. Once they locate their target they descend to grab it\u00a0before returning to its perch to consume it.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/1250th of a second and the ISO set at 1250. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
