I found a large limestone rock that was jetting out into the rushing water and I captured a few images from the edge. I thought about cropping the rock out but I decided that it would be a good feature of the photograph as it showcases the main geological formation of the Park, limestone.

Limestone is formed in two ways. It can be formed by ocean-dwelling organisms or by evaporation. Ocean-dwelling organisms such as oysters, clams, mussels and coral use calcium to create their shells and bones. When they die, their shells and bones are broken down by waves and settle on the ocean floor where they are compacted over millions of years, creating limestone. The second way is when water containing particles of calcium evaporate, leaving behind the sediment deposit.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="8586" data-permalink="https://tkahler.com/blog/2016/07/pedernales-falls-sunset-2/pedernales-falls-sunset-3/" data-orig-file="https://tkahler.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/20160619-pedernales-falls-sp-cu1-hdr-edit.jpg" data-orig-size="1000,1500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"22","credit":"Terry B.
