{"id":8509,"date":"2016-06-24T04:00:55","date_gmt":"2016-06-24T09:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=8509"},"modified":"2020-12-22T14:00:19","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T20:00:19","slug":"moonrise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/moonrise\/","title":{"rendered":"Moonrise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have mentioned before that when you are out photographing that sometimes the best photograph is actually behind you. That was the case Sunday evening when I went to <a href=\"http:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/pedernales-falls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pedernales Falls State Park<\/a>\u00a0to photograph the sunset. I was so focused on the sunset that I did not pay attention to the moonrise\u00a0behind me. When I turned around the moon was already part of the way up the sky. I got my camera gear and ran down to one of the many potholes that have been carved out in the limestone. I had to work quickly as the sun was setting fast and I only had a couple of minutes of daylight left.<\/p>\n<p>Pedernales Falls State Park is a geological wonderland. One can&#8217;t help but notice the hundreds of potholes that have been carved by repeated flooding.\u00a0These potholes are formed when rock debris gets caught up in a whirlpool and cut through the limestone like sandpaper.\u00a0I found this pothole which still had water running into and out of it. It sat higher than the river below so it had a 3D effect. The camera was set on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/aperture-priority\/\">Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/11, shutter speed at 13 seconds and the ISO set at 100.
