I posted an image a few days ago of\u00a0Nyalas and\u00a0Aloe<\/a> plants taken within the lodge compound I was staying while visiting South Africa. This photograph of a female Nyala<\/a> was taken in the wild during one of our excursions at\u00a0the Zulu-Nyala Game Reserve. Nyalas were so plentiful that it reminded me of the large quantities of deer that we have in Texas. Somewhat of a pest. They were in large numbers in part due to the low number of predators on the reserve.<\/p>\n

The Nyala is mainly active in the early morning and the late afternoon. It generally browses during the day if temperatures are between 68\u201386 \u00b0F and during the night in the rainy season. As a herbivore, the nyala feeds upon foliage, fruits and grasses, with sufficient fresh water. A shy animal, it prefers water holes rather than open spaces. Nyalas are not territorial.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/250th of a second and the ISO set at 1600. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
