One of the more common animals seen during the photo safaris I took part of\u00a0was the Zebra. Specifically these were Plains Zebras<\/a> which differ slightly from Mountain Zebras<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0We were able to get quite close to photograph them. They were not afraid of our safari vehicle. One thing we noticed is that most of the Zebras we saw had red stains on their bodies. This was due to the color of the soil in the area and the fact that they frequently roll around in it.<\/p>\n

Zebras are related to horses. Unlike the Mountain Zebras, Plans Zebras have pale brown “shadow” stripes. They live in family units (called harems) of several mares and their single offspring. There is always a dominant stallion. \u00a0We often saw Zebras in the company of Giraffe’s and Antelopes. They graze on grass and are usually the first to feed on the new growth. Lions and Spotted Hyenas are their chief predators.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/500th of a second and the ISO set at 1600.\u00a0This was a single image processed in Lightroom.<\/p>\n
