Nyalas came into the lodge compound frequently during my stay. They were looking for succulent plants but definitely not the Aloe plant. They were looking for grasses and flowering bushes. They found some in one of the gardens. That’s where I captured the image below.

The Nyala is a medium-sized antelope with sexes very distinct. Male Nyalas have a dark brown coat with a shaggy mane and fawn legs. The female has a shorter chestnut coat. They tend to group in small herds. They mainly browse on shrub foliage but they also graze on grass. Leopards are their main predators. The Nyala’s range includes South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe and it has been reintroduced into other countries where it was extinct.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="7936" data-permalink="https://tkahler.com/blog/2016/05/nyalas-and-aloe/attachment/7936/" data-orig-file="https://tkahler.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/20160513-zulu-nyara-safari-lodge-wildlife-017-e1463472577947.jpg" data-orig-size="1500,1000" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"7.1","credit":"Terry B.
