Two things that were very common at the Safari Lodge that I stayed at were Nyalas and Aloe plants. Nyalas came into the lodge compound frequently during my stay. They were looking for succulent plants but definitely not the Aloe plant. They were looking for grasses and flowering bushes. They found some in one of the gardens. That’s where I captured the image below.<\/p>\n

The Nyala<\/a> is a medium-sized antelope with sexes very distinct. Male Nyalas have a dark brown coat with a shaggy mane and fawn legs. The female has a shorter chestnut coat. They tend to group\u00a0in small herds. They mainly browse on \u00a0shrub foliage but they also graze on grass. Leopards are their main predators.\u00a0The Nyala’s range includes South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe and it has been reintroduced into other countries where it was extinct.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/7.1, shutter speed at 1\/100th of a second and the ISO set at 1600. This was a single image processed in Lightroom.<\/p>\n
