I\u00a0had the opportunity to visit the\u00a0iSimangaliso Wetland Park<\/a> in the northeastern part of South Africa where I\u00a0encountered dozens of Vervet Monkeys<\/a> in the parking lot. Many of them were aggressively trying to get food from humans. The monkey in the photograph below even tried to get into our vehicle to find something to eat. I saw a lady place her bags on the ground and before she could step away one of them tried to get into the bags. This particular monkey seemed to have a problem with his left eye. Perhaps he was blind in his left eye but that did not deter him from trying to pluck some food that did not rightfully belong to him.<\/p>\n

Vervet monkeys have been noted as having human-like characteristics such as hypertension, anxiety and dependencies. They live in social groups of up to 70 individuals. Many studies have been done that involve their communication and alarm calls, specifically in regard to kin and group recognition and especially with predator sightings.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 II Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/5.6, shutter speed at 1\/320th of a second and the ISO set at 800. This was a single image processed in Lightroom.<\/p>\n
