{"id":7430,"date":"2016-04-17T03:30:39","date_gmt":"2016-04-17T08:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=7430"},"modified":"2020-12-22T14:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T20:00:00","slug":"big-bend-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/big-bend-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Bend #3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>#3 &#8211;\u00a0Rio Grande Sunset<\/h1>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rio_Grande\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rio Grande<\/a>\u00a0serves as a natural border between the United States and Mexico and is one of the principal rivers\u00a0in the southwestern United States. You can access the river throughout the park, however, this photograph was taken outside the park boundaries. I wanted to focus on the water and the nice, round rocks that are found throughout the Rio Grande, so, I positioned my tripod very close to the ground and pointed my lens straight down. The angle of view on 16mm is quite large so I had a lot of room to work with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Original Post<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/on-the-border\/\">November 14, 2015<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong>: Near an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/29\u00b017'50.0%22N+103\u00b057'21.0%22W\/@29.2972222,-103.9580273,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0\">overlook<\/a> on Highway 170 west of the park.\u00a0A medium-range drive from Terlingua.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment<\/strong>:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii\/\">Canon EOS 5D Mark III<\/a>,\u00a0my\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/canon-ef-16-35mm-f2-8l-is-usm-lens\/\">Canon EF16-35mm f\/2.8 Lens<\/a>, tripod and a remote shutter release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camera Settings<\/strong>: Aperture Priority mode, lens at 16mm, f\/11, 1\/8th of a second, ISO 100. I took five bracketed images (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2). I took the bracketed images so I would have more options for the water flow effect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Post Processing<\/strong>: I processed the five bracketed images into a single <a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/hdr\/\">HDR<\/a> image in Photomatix and completed the processing in Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comments<\/strong>:\u00a0This photograph required a very sturdy tripod as I had to place it in the water. The vibration from the water passing could have resulted in\u00a0a blurry image. I recall that I put my weight on the tripod as I took the series of photos in order to add more rigidity to my setup. What would I do different? Well, a nice sunburst would have been a great addition to the composition.
