This photo of Juniper Canyon was taken last year during my first group photography trip to Big Bend National Park. Although this photo was on my website, I had not showcased it on my blog. I did post some photos taken in an area nearby. My favorite Juniper Canyon photo was the one I posted on December 17th titled Juniper<\/a>. That photo was taken a few hundred feet beyond this location,\u00a0so the vantage point is quite a bit higher. I’m returning to the park in a few weeks and I’m already excited about the photography opportunities.<\/p>\n

To access this area you need to take the\u00a0Lost Mine Trail<\/a>\u00a0and hike about 2.5 miles up to the lookout. It’s not a very hard hike and it’s best to start about an hour before sunrise in order to arrive in plenty of time to see the sun rise over\u00a0the horizon. As I mentioned in the previous post, there is no “lost mine” to see but there are plenty of flowers and some great rock formations in the area. It is a worthwhile hike.\u00a0Another hike I would like to do is the South Rim hike. It’s a much longer and more rigorous hike, sometimes requiring an overnight stay. The south rim is located on the right side of this photo. I understand the views are magnificent.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III<\/a> using my Canon EF 16-35mm f\/2.8 Lens<\/a> set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority<\/a> mode with the aperture set at f\/22, shutter speed at 1.6 seconds and the ISO set at 100. This was a single image processed in Lightroom.<\/p>\n
