This is the second image from my visit\u00a0to the Hamilton Pool Preserve<\/a>. As I mentioned previously, Hamilton Pool is located about 25 miles west of\u00a0Austin. The first\u00a0image I posted was from the other side of the waterfall. This image was taken from the top of the stairway that leads down into the grotto. The waterfall was not flowing as much as it normally does. It may be time to return to photograph\u00a0additional images now that we’ve had some rain in the area.<\/p>\n

Prior to the 1800’s, the Tonkawa and Lipan Apaches lived in the area. The Reimers, an immigrant family from Germany, bought the property in the 1880’s to raise sheep and cattle and owned the property for nearly 100 years. Hamilton Pool was hugely popular in the 1960’s and was soon packed with visitors. The land suffered from the sheer number of people. No restrictions were imposed on the visitors and that lead to overuse of the property. In addition to the visiting public, cattle, sheep and goats grazed the delicate ecosystem for several decades resulting in changes to the native vegetation. Travis County purchased the 232 acres from the Reimers family in the 1990’s and implemented aggressive land management plan to restore Hamilton Pool. Now, the Preserve’s lush fern-canopied cliffs are making comeback.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 16-35mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 22\u00a0mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/22, shutter speed at 1\/2 second and the ISO set at 100. I took a total of five bracketed images (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2) and brought them together using Lightroom. Final processing was done in Photoshop.<\/p>\n
