I just returned from a trip to Rockport, TX to photograph birds in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge<\/a>. I had a great time and I learned a lot about photographing birds in the wild, especially large birds like Egrets and Herons. Expect more interesting bird photographs in the upcoming days.<\/p>\n

This sunset photograph was taken in a park near the Rockport airport called Howard Murph Memorial Park<\/a>. \u00a0There are few good sunset locations in the Rockport area. Sunrise locations are plenty due to the fact that the\u00a0Gulf of Mexico is on the eastern side of the city. Copano Bay is on the western side of the peninsula so most photographers flock to this specific point to photograph the sunset. So, we did the same.<\/p>\n

The photographer in the image below is John Martell<\/a>. We stopped by his gallery upon arrival into Rockport to get some tips on sunrise and sunset locations. It was John that gave us the tip to come here to photograph a\u00a0sunset. It was ironic that he showed up the next evening\u00a0and that he became the subject of one of my photographs. John is a very good photographer. He’s especially good at creating “Art Photographs”. He understands what type of photographs attract buyers and he is able to craft scenes and create the images that people value.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my Sony FE 24-70mm f\/4 Lens<\/a> set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/2 second and the ISO set at 50. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
