Next in my “Austin Live Music<\/a>” series is a\u00a0saxophone player that was part of a small band playing at a small venue in downtown Austin. I’m particularly impressed with Sax\u00a0players because it’s an instrument that I really enjoy playing but never mastered. I like it specifically because you only play one note at a time compared to say a piano or a guitar where you can play multiple notes simultaneously, making it much more difficult to play.<\/p>\n

The saxophone is part of the “woodwind” instruments despite the fact that they are usually made of brass. The saxophone family was invented by the Belgian instrument maker Adolphe\u00a0Sax<\/a> in 1840. He wanted to create a group of instruments that would be the most powerful and vocal of the woodwinds. He patented the sax in 1846. There were seven instruments and each was designed for a specific style of music (military, orchestral, etc.). This instrument is used\u00a0in classical music, military bands, marching bands, jazz, blues and rock. I play the soprano and alto sax (not very well though). They require less wind than the tenor and bass. A LOT less wind…<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony FE 90mm f\/2.8 Macro Lens<\/a>. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/2.8, shutter speed at 1\/40th of a second and the ISO set at 6400. I processed this image in Lightroom then used Silver Efex Pro to create the black and white image.<\/p>\n
