Politicians say that their position has “evolved” when they changed their mind about a topic. Well, my position on my Austin Live Music<\/a> project has “evolved” as well. My original concept was to photograph the “art of playing”. My newly “evolved” position is that I think there is a lot of photographic value in including the player in the image. So, welcome to my first post-“evolution” Austin Live Music project image which includes the artist.\u00a0I took this image while scouting out music locations on 6th street last weekend. I’m not a big fan of 6th street because it’s more of a party atmosphere and quite frankly, it’s quite disgusting at times. But, that’s where most of the live music venues are so I decided to go and see what I could find.<\/p>\n

The artist in this “Window View” photograph is Sam Pace. He’s one of many very talented Austin musicians that are seeking\u00a0their big opportunity. According to the last Austin Music Census<\/a>,\u00a0over\u00a04,000\u00a0musicians and music operators currently live in the Austin area. Only 22% of the musicians are full-time musicians and 70% of musicians\u00a0make less than $10,000 per year. It is also estimated that music in Austin is a $1 billion industry. If you do the math, somebody is making a lot of money and it’s not the musicians.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony FE 90mm f\/2.8 Macro Lens<\/a>. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a> mode with the aperture set at f\/3.2, shutter speed at 1\/100 and the ISO set at 6400. I processed this image in Lightroom then used Silver Efex Pro to create the black and white image.<\/p>\n
