This is the\u00a0next image in my digital\u00a0black and white series. This image was taken at the Pedernales Falls State Park<\/a> bird blind. It showcases a Dove that had flown into a nearby tree. I chose to\u00a0use the same technique as yesterday’s image<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Doves are plentiful in this part of the state and dove hunting is practiced by many people in this area. Doves are categorized as\u00a0Legal Game Birds,\u00a0Unprotected Species or\u00a0Protected (Not Hunted).\u00a0There are seven species of doves and pigeons indigenous to Texas, of which only three (mourning dove, white-winged dove, and white-tipped dove) are categorized as “Legal Game Birds” and can be\u00a0hunted. Two species (red-billed pigeon and band-tailed pigeon) are currently listed as legal game birds by federal and state regulations but are not hunted in Texas due to limited numbers and distribution (categorized as unprotected species). Two other species (Inca dove and common ground-dove) are sparrow-sized birds and are categorized as “Protected” and therefore not hunted.<\/p>\n

The Dove in this image is a White-winged Dove<\/a>\u00a0and therefore a “Legal Game Bird”.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS<\/a> using my Sigma 150-600mm f\/5-6.3 Sports Lens<\/a> set on 600 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority<\/a> mode with the aperture set at f\/6.3, shutter speed at 1\/500th of a second and the ISO set at 100.<\/p>\n
