I did so because there are really only two colors in this image, pure black and bright white. The ultimate silhouette. I took this photograph while hiking Bull Creek Park in Northwest Austin in search of interesting subject to photograph when I came across a giant boulder with a very small tree growing out of it. This tree is an Ash. Which type of Ash? I don’t know as I could not climb up the bowlder safely to inspect it. I suspect it’s a Texas Ash (Fraxinus texensis) so until someone can tell me different I’ll just call it that.

Bull Creek is one of the largest tributaries that feed the Texas Colorado River (aka Lake Austin). One of the most interesting parts of this wonderful area is that it passes through some of the more scenic areas in the Austin area. It also forms a greenbelt that is the habitat for many indigenous species of flora and fauna. There are very interesting rock formations throughout the creek bed. This creek is also unique because of the numerous springs that discharge from the surrounding limestone formations along its tributary canyons. This is one of my favorite areas of Austin. I plan to return soon to capture additional images.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="5883" data-permalink="https://tkahler.com/blog/2016/01/black-and-white/black-and-white-2/" data-orig-file="https://tkahler.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/20160106-Bull-Creek-033-e1452119782649.jpg" data-orig-size="1500,1001" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"5","credit":"Terry B.
