We chose a hotel near Study Butte\/Terlingua for our home base during our recent trip to Big Bend National Park<\/a> with some of my photography friends. As we drove in and out of the park I noticed this very interesting area near the park’s western entrance. We labeled it “The Badlands”. \u00a0I’m not sure if that’s it’s official name but it certainly fit. \u00a0What was interesting to me was\u00a0the contrast in tones. So, we chose this location to shoot during a sunset prior to dinner. At first I was a bit disappointed with the results but my feelings changed once I had a chance to process the photos.<\/p>\n

The mountain range in the background is the Chisos Mountain Range. it is the park’s signature feature. The\u00a0Burro Mesa is located directly in front of the Chisos. The colored hills in the foreground are located near the highway and are composed primarily of cretaceous Javelina formations<\/a>,\u00a0cretaceous Aguja\u00a0Formations<\/a>, Talus Gravel and Pediment Gravel.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III<\/a> using my Canon EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6 Lens<\/a> set on 100 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/5.6, shutter speed at 1\/30th of a second and the ISO set at 100. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. I used Nik Color Efex Pro as well.<\/p>\n
