{"id":5050,"date":"2015-11-20T04:00:14","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T10:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=5050"},"modified":"2020-12-22T13:58:57","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T19:58:57","slug":"broken-window","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/broken-window\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken Window"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted an image yesterday of the <a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/kahakuloa\/\">Church at Kahakuloa o<\/a>n\u00a0Maui&#8217;s northwestern shore. \u00a0I\u00a0told the story of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kahekili_II\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kahekili II<\/a>, a Maui ruler\u00a0from the 1700&#8217;s.\u00a0 After capturing that image, I decided to walk around the building to find other photo opportunities when I came across a broken window.\u00a0I thought that this one would not only be a photographic challenge but also a good use of some of the techniques that I was working on. So, I hand-held the camera and tried to find the right focus point which would showcase both the broken glass and the inside of the abandoned church.<\/p>\n<p>The car rental companies warn that you should not travel\u00a0around Maui&#8217;s northwestern\u00a0shore. I really don&#8217;t understand why because, although the road is a narrow and winding, it is paved the entire way. Cell phone service is not good so perhaps it&#8217;s an issue with breakdowns and assistance but enough cars come by that help is only a few minutes away. I have read that the road can be dangerous in heavy rains and that flooding and rock slides can be a problem.
