Another “Big Sunset” from my trip to Big Bend National Park <\/a>earlier this year. The photo below was taken from a hilltop near the Rio Grande Village Campground, located on the western side of the park. The short hike to the hilltop gives you a 360-degree view of the area and is actually on a “peninsula” with Mexico on 3 sides. The town of Boquillas del Carmen<\/a> (Mexico) sits about 1.5 miles northeast of where we are standing.\u00a0In the 1930’s an initiative was proposed to create a US-Mexico International Peace Park in the area. The recommendation was to join Big Bend NP with the Maderas del Carmen park on the other side of the border. \u00a0Boquillas del Carmen would have been the center of this proposed park but the initiative never caught on. Despite this, Boquillas was a popular tourist town until the events of 9\/11 changed it all. \u00a0The US Government finally reopened the border in 2012. Both governments continue to discuss the idea. Let’s hope that one day this plan comes to fruition.<\/p>\n

Big Bend – Rio Grande Sunset<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This “Big Sunset” image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III<\/a> using my Canon EF 24-105mm f\/4 Lens<\/a> set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/11, shutter speed at 1\/15th of a second and the ISO set at 100. This image is a panorama stitched together from 9 images using Lightroom. \u00a0Some final processing was done in Photoshop.<\/p>\n
