{"id":3902,"date":"2015-09-14T04:00:59","date_gmt":"2015-09-14T09:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=3902"},"modified":"2023-04-06T20:28:42","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T01:28:42","slug":"soapy-asparagus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/soapy-asparagus\/","title":{"rendered":"Soapy Asparagus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sure the title &#8220;Soapy Asparagus&#8221;\u00a0conjures up terrible childhood memories. \u00a0The combination of soap and asparagus is\u00a0not something any of us care to think about. But, those words are not what they seem. \u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/soaptree-yucca\/\">Soaptree Yucca<\/a> (Yucca Elata)\u00a0is a member of the Asparagus (Asparagaceae) family. \u00a0See, it wasn&#8217;t that complicated. I took this image while hiking the Cattail Falls Trail in Big Bend NP. The relatively easy 1.5 mile trail leads to Cattail Falls. The falls are not that impressive most of the time but they are home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/glossary\/longspur-columbine\/\">Longspur Columbine<\/a>. The Columbine grows in very large numbers due to the amount of moisture in the enclosed fall area. The rock formations within the falls are also quite amazing. The falls are not as well documented as the rest of the BBNP but you can find enough information on the internet to get to the falls.<\/p>\n<p>The image below is of the fruit from the Yucca plant. I recall a very sweet smell. Perhaps that&#8217;s what attracted these stink bugs to it. The Soaptree Yucca is a huge plant. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/16, shutter speed at 1\/160 at ISO 100. I also used my MT-24 twin flash to light the subject.
