In the spring of 1939, Hemingway migrated\u00a0to Cuba in his boat &#8220;Pilar&#8221; to live in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hotel_Ambos_Mundos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hotel Ambos Mundos<\/a>\u00a0(Both Worlds) in Havana. \u00a0He eventually settled in a home called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Finca_Vig%C3%ADa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Finca Vig\u00eda<\/a>\u00a0(Lookout Farm). He was adopted by the Cuban community. This was evident when I visited Cuba in the winter\u00a0of 2014. Our group had a chance to visit Finca Vig\u00eda as well as his multiple hangouts in Havana.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being an accomplished writer, Hemingway was a big game hunter and visited Africa multiple times to go on safari. He nearly died twice in airplane crashes. His home is adorned with a multitude of big game trophies. Every room has at least 3 or 4 of them hanging from the walls.<\/p>\n<p>The room in the image below is located in the lookout tower, located near the pool and his boat Pilar, and was a place where he could escape and write.\u00a0I could only\u00a0wonder\u00a0if he wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/For_Whom_the_Bell_Tolls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For Whom the Bell Tolls<\/a>\u00a0in this office\u00a0and on this typewriter.\u00a0Hemingway left Cuba shortly after the revolution and moved to Idaho where he committed suicide in the summer of 1961.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2747\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2747\" style=\"width: 1500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/20140218-Havana-Hemingway-Museum-CH.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2747\" src=\"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/20140218-Havana-Hemingway-Museum-CH.jpg\" alt=\"Hemingway's Other Office\" width=\"1500\" height=\"996\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hemingway&#8217;s Other Office<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This image was taken with my SONY NEX-6 using my E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS set on 50 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/7.1, shutter speed at 1\/125 at ISO 100.
