Getting a good photo of the geyser is part planning and part luck. The evening I took this photo it just worked out. Having just finished dinner, I noticed that the eruption time was near, so I gathered my gear, suited up for the cold, and headed out from the Yellowstone Snow Lodge to photograph this magnificent geothermal feature. It did not disappoint. The camera was set on\u00a0Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/2.8, shutter speed at 25 seconds, and the ISO set at 5000. I lit the geyser with my Coast 7 flashlight (permitted in the national parks) and I used a tripod for stability given the long exposure.
