I photographed this Whooping Crane reflection while visiting the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Rockport, TX last month. I mentioned in another post that we leased a boat called the Jack Flash, piloted by Captain Kevin, to take us out into the bay to spot wildlife. Our primary goal was to see the famous Whooping Cranes. Many people travel from all over the world to this area to see them before they migrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whooping cranes begin their fall migration south to Texas in mid-September and begin the spring migration north to Canada in late March or early April. This round trip is more than 2,400 miles. Whooping cranes winter on the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge’s 22,500 acres of salt flats and marshes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV<\/a> using a Canon EF 600mm f\/4 IS Mark III that I rented from LensRentals. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/4, shutter speed at 1\/500th of a second and the ISO set at 200. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
