Pronghorn are plentiful in the northern part of Yellowstone National Park during the winter months. The lower elevations combined with higher food availability makes the area a great spot to view and photograph these wonderful animals. It was there that I was able to photograph this pronghorn. The late afternoon light helped showcase it well.<\/p>\n

The Pronghorn is the fastest North American land animal, capable of reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. The pronghorn’s speed is its main defense against predators. The newborns, for the first few days of their lives, are vulnerable to coyotes.\u00a0By the end of their first week, they are running about, and soon are young speedsters themselves.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 7D Mark II<\/a> using a Canon EF 600mm f\/4 IS Mark III that I rented from LensRentals. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/4, shutter speed at 1\/2500th of a second and the ISO set at 160. I hand-held the camera for this image. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
