{"id":15624,"date":"2020-02-13T00:01:01","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T06:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=15624"},"modified":"2023-04-03T12:08:16","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T17:08:16","slug":"moody-castle-geyser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/moody-castle-geyser\/","title":{"rendered":"Moody Castle Geyser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I photographed this scene of a moody Castle Geyser shortly after the photograph I posted of the geyser with a <a href=\"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/backlit-castle-geyser\/\">sunburst<\/a> and before I photographed it with a <a href=\"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/rainbow-over-castle-geyser\/\">rainbow<\/a>. I used my Syrp neutral density filter to lengthen the exposure and create a moody scene. The longer exposures helps visualize the shape of the plume and it shows the rotation of the water and steam expelled by the geyser.<\/p>\n<p>Long exposure photography can add a lot of drama to a photograph, especially when transformed into a black-and-white photograph. In the film days, we would expose the film a certain way, develop it with specific parameters and then print the image using special paper, chemicals and processes to obtain a similar image. Today, we can take a digital image and use software like Nik Silver Efex Pro to create an image with character and mood. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/16, shutter speed at 1.6 seconds and the ISO set at 100. I used my Syrp 10 stop filter to lengthen the exposure and I used a tripod for stability.
