{"id":15575,"date":"2020-02-09T00:01:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-09T06:01:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=15575"},"modified":"2023-04-03T12:08:50","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T17:08:50","slug":"rainbow-over-castle-geyser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/rainbow-over-castle-geyser\/","title":{"rendered":"Rainbow over Castle Geyser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I posted a photograph of <a href=\"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/backlit-castle-geyser\/\">Castle Geyser<\/a> with a sunburst. This photo of a rainbow over Castle Geyser was taken a few\u00a0 minutes after the wind shifted and forced us to move around to the other side of the Geyser. Not long after, a rainbow formed and we spent a few minutes photographing this magnificent scene. I was surprised how strong the rainbow came out. Most of the time rainbows are more impressive in person. I think the proximity and the white backdrop helped intesify the colors. Did I mention that Castle Geyser is one of my favorite geysers in the park?<\/p>\n<p>Rainbows form around some geysers caused by the reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in the fine geyser mist which results in a spectrum of light appearing near the geyser. These rainbows tend to shift quite a bit as the wind blows the mist in different directions. Just a minute later the rainbow was a full-length rainbow to the left of the geyser. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/11, shutter speed at 1\/100th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a polarizer filter to enhance the sky and I used a tripod for stability.
