My coaching work has been taking up quite a bit of my time and I&#8217;m delighted to be back after a long break from my hobby. I usually make the trek to the Big Bend area during the fall. My first outing during this trip was to La Cuesta, a segment of the Rio Grande that I&#8217;m particularly fond of. My goal for this trip was to find areas where I can use my Lee filters to do some long exposures. In addition, I hope to photograph the night sky, however, the temperatures have been below freezing, and that does not make for a pleasant experience.<\/p>\n<p>La Cuesta is located along highway 170, half-way between the resort town of Lajitas and the border town of Presidio. It is one of the few accessible places where you can find large boulders in the water. The site is a hit-or-miss location based on the Rio Grande water levels. I was hoping for slightly less water in the river but I have learned to make the best of what you&#8217;ve got. These three boulders were the best the river had to offer on that day. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at twenty seconds and the ISO set at 100. I used my lee filters to extend the exposure, and a tripod for stability.
