I always enjoy photographing the channels and terraces emanating from the Grand Prismatic Spring in the Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. These channels and terraces have a bright orange color in the summer and fall. The colder temperatures changes the bacterial makeup and a darker color bacteria dominate the landscape in the winter months. See yesterday’s post on Bacterial Mats<\/a> to better understand why this happens.<\/p>\n

The Grand Prismatic Spring is one of my favorite areas to photograph. Unfortunately the winds were quite high this day and the condensation on my equipment due to the cold, humid air prevented me from photographing the spring. I hope to go back on a warm, dry day to capture the bright colors that give the spring its name.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5D Mark IV<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 16-35 mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/13, shutter speed at 1\/100th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a crop of a panorama image processed in Lightroom then finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
