One of our first stops during the “Winter in Yellowstone” photography workshop I attended was along the Tangled Creek portion of the Lower Geyser basin where we photographed trees casting shadows in the snow. A lot of the conversation centered around whether this photo is better in black and white or in color. I processed both and decided that it was better in black and white. I created another slider with both photographs so you can compare for yourself. You can access the slider by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Located in the Lower Geyser Basin, Tangled is an appropriate name for the creek. The stream is a perfect network of separate channels which cross and recross and interlace with each other in the most confusing fashion. It was named in 1885 by the United States Geological Survey for its characteristic. The creek eventually joins the Firehole River downstream and eventually dumps in the Gulf of Mexico after passing through America’s most popular rivers.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5D Mark IV<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 24-70mm f\/2.8 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/500th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I hand-held the camera for this image. This is a single image processed in Lightroom then finalized in Photoshop using Nik Silver Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
