I captured this prickly pear sunset during my first evening in Big Bend during my recent trip to the park. We are always eager to photograph as soon as we get there but our energy levels are a bit low following the eight hour car ride from Austin to West Texas. So, we usually pick a spot about a mile or two into the park to photograph the sunset. We call this the \u201cOcotillo Field\u201d because Ocotillos are prominent in the area. It\u2019s an especially good area when the Ocotillos are blooming. Since the Ocotillos were dormant I chose this prickly pear as my foreground. What you don\u2019t see is that there a steep dropoff right behind me, so, space was at a premium…<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 16-35mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/11, shutter speed at 1\/30th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability.\u00a0This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
