One of my favorite new (new for me) areas in Big Bend National park is the Dorgan-Sublett trail near Santa Elena Canyon. The short hike takes you to the area where the Sublett and Dorgan families built their homes back in the early 1900’s.\u00a0 Of the two home sites, I prefer the Dorgan house because it allows for some great views. This is where I captured this “Window to Castellon” photograph using one of the currently standing walls to frame Castellon Mountain.<\/p>\n

The Dorgan\u2019s built their home out of cottonwood timbers and adobe bricks on a plateau near the popular Santa Elena Canyon. The view from this vantage point is great. From here you can see the Chisos Mountains, Castellon Mountain, Mule Ears, the Rio Grande and the Santa Elena canyon area. I am sure they had some great sunrises and sunsets.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 5DS<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Canon EF 16-35mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f11, shutter speed at 1\/13th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability.\u00a0This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
