Another Gold Point Cabin from my night photography workshop in Gold Point, Nevada last month. I was attracted to this cabin because of the string of lights hanging across the porch. It’s a challenge to shoot these lights using long exposures. Just to give you an idea how much light is required, the overall exposure is 20 seconds (with the lights off) and the lights were lit only a fraction of a second. The way I did this was that I started the exposure, ran over to where the lights were usually plugged in and inserted the plug for just a split second and then pulled it back out again. As you can see, it as just enough light. Any more and it would have been blown out.<\/p>\n

Gold Point Cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony FE 16-35mm f\/2.8 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/5.6, shutter speed at 20 seconds and the ISO set at 2500. I used a tripod for this photo. I lit the inside of the cabin with a string of fairy lights. The outside of the cabin was lit by the streetlight nearby. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
