The Rocks at Dunquin Harbour was high on my list. It was especially so after arriving at the airport in Shannon and seeing a photo taken by a local photographer displayed near the baggage claim area. I made two attempts to photograph the rocks but both were met with mist and wind. Long exposures were out of the question. Also, this is not a very safe area to stand and photograph. In fact, I got a little too close to the edge and lost my balance but, fortunately, I was able to recover before going over the edge.

Dunquin Harbour has been used for centuries by the people who populated the Blasket Islands. I am reading a book titled The Islandman (Tomas O’Crohan). It’s not an easy read but it describes life on the islands and how tough it was for the residents. The islands were evacuated in 1953 and only a few boat tours take people onto the islands for hiking and sight-seeing. I highly recommend visiting Dunquin Harbour during your next visit to the Dingle Peninsula.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="12623" data-permalink="https://tkahler.com/blog/2017/07/rocks-dunquin-harbour/rocks-at-dunquin-harbor/" data-orig-file="https://tkahler.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/20170703-dunquin-harbour-ab1-hdr-2-edit.jpg" data-orig-size="1125,1500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"8","credit":"Terry B.
