Our first attempt to access Skellig Michael by standing by was not a success. We then decided to go to the neighboring Valentia Island and check out some of the interesting locations. After crossing the bridge from Portmagee we decided to hike up to the Bray Head Tower. It was a very foggy morning so it was hard to enjoy the scenery beyond a few yards. This was still true when we made it up to the tower. So, I decided to spend time inside the tower taking photos. The room in this photo appears to be the main room in the structure. I really liked how the light came through the windows and door and illuminated the interior. I decided that a black and white photo would show more of the room’s detail.<\/p>\n

When it is not foggy, the tower offers some incredible views of the area including the Skellig Islands, Blasket Island, Valentia, the Dingle Sound and the Iveragh Peninsula. Towers popped up all along the Irish coast to prevent attacks on the country. The Bray Head Tower was constructed in the early 1800’s for this purpose. The tower was used until the 1920’s by naval authorities as a signal station.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony FE 16-35mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/20th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Silver Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
