I generally don’t like photographing graveyards but it is very difficult to visit Ireland and not notice the large number of ancient graveyards scattered throughout the country. I was made aware of the Killcatherine Church and graveyard location by Francis Brennan, a local photographer who was setting up to sell his photographs in the Kenmare town square on a Sunday morning. I was impressed by his photographs of Ireland so I a struck up a conversation with him. He was very open about where to photograph and showed me some of his favorite locations. I really liked how he post-processed his photographs and I decided that his style fit this scene perfectly. If you would like to see his work you can access his photographs here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Killcatherine is an ancient monastic site from the 7th century.\u00a0The church is named after St. Caithighearn, reputedly known as the Cat Goddess.\u00a0The cemetery is thought to have been built by the same monks who built the beehive monastery on Skellig Michael. It is home to one of the earliest stone crosses in Ireland.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sony FE 16-35mm f\/4 Lens<\/a>\u00a0set on 16mm. The camera was set on\u00a0Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/11, shutter speed at 1\/25th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Silver Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
