{"id":12160,"date":"2017-04-30T09:30:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-30T14:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/?p=12160"},"modified":"2017-04-30T09:18:14","modified_gmt":"2017-04-30T14:18:14","slug":"high-view-sunset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkahler.com\/blog\/2017\/04\/high-view-sunset\/","title":{"rendered":"High View Sunset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I mentioned last week that I was scheduled to attend a workshop all of this week and as such I would not be able to post very frequently. The workshop I am attending is focused on night photography and the setting is in the Joshua Tree National Park.\u00a0I will be spending most of the day in a classroom setting and then a good portion of the night photographing the night sky. Sleep will be at a premium. Since the workshop starts today and I thought I better get out and photograph a sunset before\u00a0things get too busy.<\/p>\n<p>After arriving at the hotel and after doing quite a bit of scouting and traversing the park to get a lay of the land, I decided to take the Park Ranger&#8217;s advice and photograph the sunset from the western side of the park in an area called Black Canyon. I hiked along the High View Trail which is on the far western edge\u00a0of the\u00a0Park. The views were not as spectacular as I was expecting but I did find a nice Sotol-looking cactus that was flowering. I probably could have found a better spot elsewhere in the park but I made the best of the situation. The hike was great and I found a lot of very nice looking flowers along the trail. I look forward to exploring more of the park and to sharing more of my photographs from the workshop in the days ahead. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f\/14, shutter speed at 1\/100th of a second and the ISO set at 400. I used a tripod\u00a0for stability.
